Gut-wrenching but a full knowledge museum
A little trip to outside the main attractions this iconic museum is one of the must see during your trip in Yerevan. Trigger warning. Photos of corpse, hanging, and other forms of death are featured within the first part of the museum so better just pass along if you don’t have the faint of heart. My favorite part of the museum is the last stories where it was located on the ground floor (they are still renovating as of this writing). How Armenians build themselves from the ground up, being a refugee, telling their stories to the world and much more. I even bought a book written by a first-hand experience for me to understand on what really happened.

Haunting, must be visited when in Yerevan
The museum itself and the park surrounding it are free, though it's recommended to get yourself an audio tour or a (paid) guide as this will add to the experience. You'll easily spend a couple of hours here if you wan to read everything, so note that the museum closes at 5PM (and isn't open on Mondays). The "forest" of planted trees, spire and eternal flame monument are all part of the same park and offer a solemn and silence-inducing experience. This is not a visit which'll make you feel relieved or which offers a catharsis of any kind, so be prepared for gut-wrenching stories.

Every visitor to Armenia must visit
We took a tour of the museum in English with our guide Hasmik who was excellent. During the tour we were amazed by what we discovered and we learnt a great deal about Armenia’s past and hopes for the future. The museum also has a small shop and amazing panoramic views of Yerevan from its’ monument. Visiting the museum is a must for any visitor to Armenia. Tip - Yandex to the museum and walk down the hill back into the city at the end to take in the view.
