North Jiefang Road Market, Xinjiang Uygur, China

4.5 (36 reviews) Spent Ranking #6 in Kashgar Flea & Street Markets

Good place to see local food culture

Many kind of food, drinks and desserts are selling here. Some of them you may not know the ingredient. And need a lot of bravery to eat them. Some food just like a food served in an old-famous tv program " Fear Factor". But it is part of the culture. So enjoy it!

    Not for the squeamish!!
Wonderful local Uygur ambiance. We found the night market a very interesting place to see how the locals socialize in the evenings. There are plenty of interesting foods and delicacies. They waste no part of the animal here but there are also vegetarian options available too.

We loved it! A must do in Kashgar!
This is the best place to get an evening meal or snack! We stayed in Kashgar for 6 nights and visited/ate here every night... that's how much we liked it. There are stalls selling all manner of delicious local foods. You can find lagman noodles, manti dumplings, all manner of grilled meats, boiled sheep entrails and heads, hot pot items on skewers, shashlik, bread, fruit, and desserts. There is something for everyone no matter your tastes, adventurous and timid alike. The market is quiet as it opens but gets busy quickly. By 8:30 it's bustling with locals and tourists seeking a meal. Please note that this market is most commonly referred to as the "Night Market". The market is just steps away from Id Kah Mosque. You have to head due East across the square then cross the main road by taking the pedestrian underpass. The market "opens" at around 8 pm but you can go earlier and a few of the vendors will be open and selling. Most every stall has a few seats for patrons to use while enjoying their meal. If not you can grab a seat at a neighbouring stall and nosh away. Most items are snack sized and you'll need to order a few different dishes to fill up. Most larger items are 5 yuan with smaller items (single skewers for example) for less (1-2 yuan). Our family of 4 would generally eat our fill for 30 yuan or less. As a little helpful side note, most of the stalls selling beverages charge 4 yuan for a bottle of water but there are a couple permanent shops around the perimeter that sell waters for 2 yuan. Also, it's very busy at times. Please keep your money, passport and valuables safe. You HAVE to go here if you're in Kashgar. It's that good!
