This is a great skating pond in Winter

I have lived in Winchester for over 50 years and long ago when my children were small we often went skating on Winter Pond. It is shallow enough that it freezes early in the winter and is usually busy with skaters.

Nice little pond, but access is very limited.
The pond is nice but it is surround by private lots; the access is limited to a very small area. There is parking for three or four cars max, and if that many people come the place feels crowded. There's some sunfish and small bass in the pond, fun for small kids. Skating in winter. Not much else.

    Great when filled with water
It has been a tough few seasons for Winter Pond. Not too long ago the water level was so low the shorelines were all dry and the ducks had moved away. The recent rains have restored the water levles and the wild life has mostly returned. A great place to take the little kids to feed the ducks and watch the fishermen, but it is a mystery to me what they hope to catch. In past years the Pond has frozen sufficiently to allow safe ice skating but not this last Winter. Water levels are under control of the dam at Horn Pond so Winchester does not control the fate of the ponds although there should be more cooperation with Woburn.
