Muzium Negara was officially opened on 31 August 1963, on the site of the Selangor Museum, which was accidentally bombed during the Second World War.The main museum building houses four exhibition galleries featuring Malaysia’s history and rich cultural diversity. The Prehistory Gallery showcases the formation of the Malay Archipelago with findings of numerous important prehistoric archaeological sites in Malaysia. There's no need to book ahead, just be at the museum front desk about 10 mins before.Tours are in English - but tours in Malay, Mandarin, French, Japanese and other languages are also available. Excellent Museum tour by Ms Ong Li Ling
Two days ago I revisited National Museum. My first and last visit was in 1979. Ms Ong Li Ling was our Museum Guide for a small group of 5 of us. I must praise her for her in-depth knowledge of the history of Malaysia. She has almost had all the answers to our questions. The other important mention is, even though the Aircond in the Museum wasn’t working properly yet she was ever so patient in explaining to us and even reward us with mini Kit Kat Chocolates when we answered her questions correctly. This is really showing her passions in letting us know all knowledge possible. Thank you Li Ling.

Disappointing visit at the National Museum
Very disappointing for a National Museum as it lacked of contents. Its exhibits are at a bare minimum, and no seats in the exhibition halls for you to sit down and enjoy. There was no headphone to provide tours etc. Only had four exhibition halls, nothing much about the Malaysian history. Need to increase content and exhibits. Someone told me that it was almost same since they visited 35-40 years ago
