Germantown

We are always looking for something historic to learn from each year in jamaica, so we took the trek up to the mountains from whitehouse, very rugged terrain, but well worth it to learn about a little history about Germans coming and settling up here in Seaford town. We went Into a little grocery where our driver arranged a guide to meet and show us around. We visited a church that was over 150 years old with its.original furniture. Afterwards we.visited the adjacent cemetary, across the road was a training school, and one of the the oldest gas stations on the island.also we took a little trek thru an pineapple field. If you like history and have the time check it out.

Seaford Town, German settlement from 1800's
If you have an interest in history, this is a nice side trip when in Jamaica. It's a bit of an adventure getting there. The road is not the best, lots of pot holes, take a 4X4. Seaford town was settled by Germans who were brought in by British slave owners in the 1800's to work after to abolition of slavery. There's an old church, variety store, gas station, school and museum. You can meet some of the descendants of those Germans. Ask for a gentleman named Chambers, he knows all the history and will show you around.
