Great skiing, abysmal handling of covid
Great skiing conditions - best in southeast for sure. The resort was generally ill equipped to handle the COVID restrictions, which were stated but not really enforced. The shuttle from Silver Lake to Snowshoe was supposed to have a max capacity and mask requirement, but the drivers were not enforcing it. One driver actually announced to the group on the bus "don't call the state and report me". Check in at Silver Lake took over an hour as they only had one person working the front desk. Said it was because staff was out sick or for quarantine. Lots of signs for mask requirements inside Silver Lake Lodge, but probably 50% of people wearing masks - no enforcement. My daughters did private lessons and the instructor did not wear a mask. Once you get over all of that, the skiing was actually pretty awesome.

    Disappointing
I found this resort disappointing. While it looks nice from the outside, after spending a few nights, we were ready to go home. Pros: everything is close by so you are never more than a few minutes’ walk from anything in the village Cons: Long lines for restaurant and ski lifts, over new year’s holiday the wait in every restaurant was at least 2 hours long or more. I found it extremely frustrating that the staff at the restaurants would underestimate the wait time by a lot. One place told us 1-1.5 hours when it turned out to be 2.5 hour wait and then wouldn’t let us sit in the main room after we ordered at the bar (we were starving!) The pool is very small. Only one baby slide inside and a small shallow pool with another small slide outside and another small outdoor pool. The indoor area was dirty and the locker rooms are a health hazard. Every locker is completely rusted through and there are several inches of dust on top and inside. Do not leave your belongings in the lockers unless you have a lock. The area is not stroller friendly so if you have a small child and you are bringing a stroller, you will find yourself going over many steps to include the steps leading to the indoor playground. It’s truly shocking that someone thought it was a good idea to not include a ramp leading to a kid’s play area. The only other way to get into Big Top is to go around through a parking lot and then walk on a road with no sidewalk. Neither option is great and I did not enjoy pushing a stroller up and down every time I had to take my daughter there. And the place doesn’t open until 11am so there is absolutely NOTHING to do with a small child there in the mornings. The pool opens at noon. There are no outdoor playgrounds either. On New Year’s Eve, they shut down the Big Top at 4pm so there was nothing I could do to entertain my kids and they reopened it at 7:30pm with a $35 cover charge. What kid is up that late to go to a playground anyhow and why would I pay $35 per person to let a couple kids go to a bouncy castle? The heater in our rental unit broke sometime during the night. We woke up freezing and called the front desk at 7:30am to notify them. No one would tell me when a technician would show up. I called 4 times that day. Someone finally showed up at 5pm and told us the heating units are old and they are starting to break and they don’t have parts to fix them. No one even inspected the thermostat or the heating unit. At that point I spent the day keeping a 2 year old from burning herself on the space heater and I was more than frustrated. All they could do was give us a food voucher. We tried to redeem the food voucher that night and had to wait 2.5 hours to eat with two little kids. Talk about adding insult to injury. This is a dry county and only beer is sold in the mini mart so bring your own alcohol. I doubt we will be back.
