Lenmakana Jellyfish Lake, West Papua, Indonesia
4.5 (10 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #2 in West Papua Bodies of Water
One of the rare stingless jellyfish lake in the world
People probably heard about jellyfish lake in Palau island, or Kakaban East Kalimantan. Lenmakana jellyfish lake allegedly has just been discovered few years ago. The location is quite remote (S 01 58.111', E 130 31.225'), only the local people can guide you there. You need to approach the karst by small speed boat and climb the steep reef. A glove is highly recommended. Best place to visit is just after 1 PM when the lake is glowing by thousands of golden jellyfish floating near the surface. Swimming with them is definitely once in a lifetime experience. Please refrain from doing silly behaviour at this place.

Not easy to get to but a place to remember
Like a lot of places in Raja Ampat you need a moderate of fitness plus climbing ability. Getting to the lake the rocks are sharp like other climbs in the area but also here they can be deceptively loose. Coming across a ridge at the top of the climb you can see the lake below you. You could also climb up further but that is exceptionally difficult. The lake looked rather dull, not blue like the other waters, but the jellyfish are fascinating - all sizes and so numerous.

Amazing place, but beware the climb
This is really a must-do experience when you are in Misool area. But beware of the climb, you need good shoes and should only carry something small on your back. It is very easy to injure yourself on the climb, but the experience is definitely worth it.
