Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County Museum, Florida, United States

4.5 (41 reviews) Sunday: Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #22 in West Palm Beach Speciality Museums

Worth a visit! Much to learn about Palm Beach.

REally interesting overview of the history of Palm Beach starting from the ancient native tribes, through the Spanish, British and American flags. They have a lot of older artifacts, a nice movie of the history narrated by George Hamilton- a Palm Springs native- and a lot about the founders, movers and shakers that have made the city and county what it is today. We especially appreciated the insights from Michael, our host and guide who gave us wonderful background information on what we were seeing, It was a couple of hours well spent and very enjoyable.

Walking tour the architect Rick was great!
During the winter season, the museum offers guided tours of West Palm beach. Wife and I were able to go on last one of the season. Historical preservation architect, Rick of REG Architecture leads the 90 minute, short walk. Rick and his father were responsible for several historic projects including saving the 1916 court house. Great personal insight to Clematis area. Rick uses individual headsets so you have no problem hearing him even with a large group. You cover 5-10 blocks of easy walking. Rick is very interesting and we learned a lot about West Palm, architecture and South Florida history. Thanks Rick!

West Palm Beach museum a Gem not to miss
My sister in law and I had the most marvelous docent, John give us a most profound and interesting tour of the museum. History made so lively by his telling. Left with a great deal of knowledge of WPB. The court room on the 3rd floor is also very interesting. The Court House, built in 1916, is now the museum. Give it a good hour, unless John is giving the tour, which then you’d wish it would go on and on for several hours, and in our steamy hot July weather, it’s a cool respite.
