Prespa Lakes, West Macedonia, Greece

4.5 (215 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in West Macedonia Bodies of Water

Small Prespa Lake is a very special zone of nature.

A beautiful pristine area shared by 3 countries. These lakes are shared by Albania, FYROM and Greece. A totally different kind of vacation to come in touch of nature as it truly is as well as the people who live there!

    Three Is A Crowd
Lake Prespa sits in 3 countries. Greece, Albania and North Macedonia. Quite unusual. Nevertheless a truly beautiful, quiet and peaceful place for nature lovers. Tge unspoilt mountains are a sea if green forests and surrounding the lake. If you are in any of the 3 countries mentioned. A trip to the lake with a spot of lunch would be a good experience and worth the effort.

Tranquil lakes at the Albanian border
Prespa lakes are almost at the end of Greece close to the Albanian border. We took a surprisingly interesting and enjoyable tour of greater Prespa lake with a veteran of the Germanos family. The motor boat cruise showed us some of the huge variety of birds on the lake (hundreds of big pelicans) and the churches of hermites that decide to live and build churches to protect their right to have religious icons. You have to climb a bit to the small but colorful churches ( we visited two) but it's definitely worth it. Lunch at the Germanos (what else) restaurant overlooking the lake was simple, good and inexpensive.
