Large Museum with Varied Collection

This museum has something for everyone. From geology and archaeology to history, fashion, a live beehive, this museum has it all. Nice collection of horse drawn vehicles and an interesting history of Yakima, both as a region and as a city. Highly recommend.

    Entertaining Slice of Yakima Life
What interesting history could Yakima have? - potential visitors. Turns out, they can piece together some pretty cool exhibits. The Yakima Valley Museum is a spacious two story museum with a old soda shop on its back half. The top floor of the museum has a better collection than the bottom. There you will find Native American history, a special exhibit room, a collection of famous Yakima residents (Kyle McLaughlin?), old transportation, a cabinet of curiosities, a room filled with Supreme Court Justice Douglas items (from Yakima), and a section about the farming industry (including a lot of really nifty apple company labels). The downstairs did not have much that interested me besides a collection of pencils hidden in a hallway down the back. All in all, they do a pretty solid job of crafting an interesting story about the life in the Yakima Valley. They did not even mention Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, who is also from Yakima. Perhaps room for another wing later.

    Shared Heritage
The Yakima Valley Museum is one of the best museums I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The exhibits are always wonderful and showcase the Yakima Valley which has a rich and diversified culture. Several years ago they had a display that I thought was really interesting. It showcased collections from various Yakima Vallley residents. Items included vintage and antique egg beaters, Mary Gregory Glass, Hawaiian shirts, lunch boxes, pencils, and several other interestong collections. Currently there are The Yakama Nation exhibits, vehicles, and sections about many notable Yakima Valley pioneers. They are quite wonderful. The children's section is a great place to reach wonderful young people and to share info on our heritage.
