Trout Feeding Frenzy!

We saw the sign for the fish hatchery and decided to check it out. So glad we did - fun and educational for all ages. The volunteer host gave us a great tour of the facility and explained the life cycle of salmon and why we have fish hatcheries. We saw the small fry tanks and huge salmon that had just returned from the ocean in another tank. Best of all we got to feed the trout and created a feeding frenzy - they were HUNGRY! Amazing facility.

    Guided tour!!!
We went here on a whim, just to fill some time. A man came walking out to greet us and we were sure he was going to run us off and say the place was closed to the public for Covid reasons. Instead, he gave us a personal guided tour! He is a volunteer there and was super enthusiastic and informative. I have been to a dozen fish hatcheries over the years but learned more in this one visit than all the others combined. We got to toss food into a pond filled to the brim with Rainbow trout and watch the feeding frenzy. Behind my mask, I was grinning like a little kid! Who knew something goofy like this could be one of the highlights of my weekend!

    Great little hatchery!
When we first arrived it wasn't clear where we could or couldn't go, or what exactly there was to see. We finally flagged down an employee who was super helpful. He pointed us towards the viewing area, the trout feeding pond, the area they were caring for displaced beavers and the trailer where they were clipping and tagging the fish. It was a fun visit! Just wish things were marked more clearly. All of the employees we had contact with were very friendly and helpful.
