Moderately difficult trail with amazing vista views from the top of Silver Star Mountain

From the Grouse Vista trail head (GPS coordinates 45.7218211334099, -122.26956713944674) it is a moderately difficult hike up to the top of Silver Star Mountain. Topping out at over 4000 feet, you are then rewarded with a 'top of the world' view that includes Hood, Adams, Rainier, Jefferson, St. Helen's, Baker and the Northern Cascades. This is the best mountaintop view in SW Washington. Hike is 6+ miles RT with 2000' elevation gain, with no facilities. Bring plenty of water and snacks, and you will be rewarded with a view to last a lifetime. Hike is rocky and steep at the start and at the finish, but moderate between. Grouse Vista Trail head is a one hour drive from Portland. Parking at the trail head requires a pass which must be purchased elsewhere, ahead of time.

    Gorgeous Hike!
This was a gorgeous beautiful hike that we took with our kids. They liked it and the fresh air & exercise was so good. The views are stunning!

Watched sun set and full moon rise
Joined a group of friends to hike this peak. Hiked in the evening to watch sun set from the top and the full moon rise from the east. What a beautiful view of Washington state mountains, Mt. Hood, and the Columbia river. The hike was difficult at the bottom for the first half mile then wasn't so steep. I gave the hike four stars because of the road to get there. The last road was so terrible, ruts as big as the truck from all the water run off. Don't take a vehicle you like up there.
