    Century History
An interesting museum providing an insight into mechanical and domestic history of life over a century ago. Tough times and tough folks, a great collection of real items used with displays showing how homes would have been at that time. Admission is free with a suggested minimum $5 donation per person. Great value, most enjoyable.

    Surprisingly authentic Western town
This was billed as a good place to get an introduction to the town of Winthrop. It was. The Methow Valley can take you back in time to its cowboy days if you shut your eyes and let your imagination take over. Just a few miles north of Twisp on Hwy.153 you arrive in "Wild West" Winthrop. We stayed at Abbey Creek Inn on the outskirts of town. It was a pleasant place with lots of views of the mountain . It's located in the Methow Valley and with a little imagination you could feel yourself being taken back to the 1880's. The town has done a good job of retaining the western flavor of the area with its wooden sidewalks, interesting store fronts and a great place to take pictures. This is the largest town in the valley. We took the advice of an article and our first stop was the Rocking Horse Bakery on Riverside Drive: the main street in town. It opens at 6:30 Am and there is usually a line outside waiting to get their breakfast items like burritos, cinnamon rolls, crepes and other baked goods. you can take your purchase out to the deck or what we did was take the stairs down from the deck and walk over to some tables that have a great view of the river. We spent about 4 hours in town taking pictures and then drove around the area to soak up the western atmosphere which really did seem pretty authentic and not particularly touristy. Perhaps its because of the authentic store fronts and the wooden "sidewalks " When we returned to town we had dinner at 3 fingered Jack's Saloon. The meal was quite good and there was a waiting line for about 20 minutes to get inside the restaurant. For those who like to shop, there is a pretty good selection of places to check out along Riverside Dr.
