Fun mid- morning ride

This is a trail that goes nearly 10 miles around the perimeter fence of Lake Youngs. This lake is a reservoir that supplies the city of Seattle with drinking water, so it is fenced to prevent contamination. The trail varies from a gravel road, to a single track trail, but is well maintained and it travels outside the perimeter fence. You cannot see the lake from anywhere along the trail as it travels through woods, along roads and behind residential developments. The morning I took my bike ride was sunny (although the trail is mostly in the shade due to dense forest) and there were not many people out. The trail has an elevation gain of over 800 feet according to my iPhone and it took just under an hour to complete the ride -- starting at my house which is about half a mile from the trailhead.

Lake Youngs is a reservoir for the City of Seattle located in SE King County. Since Seattle gets their drinking water from this source, the lake is fenced off to prevent contamination. The Lake Youngs Trail follows the perimeter fence around the lake, through woods, and along roads and behind housing developments. The trail is about 9.5 miles and has an 835 ft. elevation gain according to my iPhone. You never actually see the lake, but the trail is quite interesting -- sometimes a gravel road and narrowing down in places to a single trail. It is well maintained and not overgrown by plant life. It took me just under an hour from my house (located about half mile away) to complete the loop on my bike.

    A Simple, Straightforward Trail
This trail is a great practice trail if you haven't been out in the mountains for a while, or if you want a less strenuous hike for ten miles. It's got some hills, but is relatively flat, and it's, with the exception of one side, very easy to follow and very wide.
