A wonderful surprise on a trip of Mystery

On one of our Mystery trips I planned a stop in Woodland Wa. Which is somewhere between Vancouver WA. and Kelso, WA. I had heard of a lilac house or a special garden, I wasn't sure but thought it might be fun to drag 45 seniors there to check it out. Trite be told, I was a little scared that it might not be anything special....but I was oh so wrong....what a beautiful place. We spent 2hours there walking through the gardens, listening to stories of how it was all started and shopping at the gift shop was amazing! This is a place that you just have to experience yourself...just make sure that you go during the Lilac Festival which is the first part of May. That is the only time that everything is open.....it really is like a secret Garden!

    My favorite flower.
I came here when I was 14 and purchased two lilacs. Now I am 65 and it has changed a lot. Because of Covid the house is closed. However the grounds are open and lovely! There is also a book about Hulda Klager called “Where Lilacs Still Bloom” about her life and how the lilac gardens got started.

    Lovely Place to Visit
I try to get to the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens every year when they are in bloom. I have been several times and still bring my camera and take photos. If you catch the lilacs in full bloom, it's a sight to see, and oh that fragrance! Bring a picnic lunch as there are a few picnic tables around the gardens. So many varieties of lilacs which can also be purchased. During Lilac Days you can tour the Klager homestead and visit the lilac gift shop. I highly recommend reading the book about Hulda's life, "Where Lilacs Still Bloom" by Jane Kirkpartick before visiting. It'll give you a look into her life. At any rate, it's a peaceful stroll through the gardens.
