Nicely Restored Lighthouse

This lighthouse was recently restored and is well worth visiting. This time of year it is only open on the weekends. There are several volunteers available to tell you about the lighthouse and a museum on the ground floor of the keepers house. Also a nice gift shop on site. It's nice to be able to climb to the top and take in the views of Fort Casey and the Straight of Juan de Fuca. Nice to find a lighthouse so well cared for.

    Interesting little lighthouse
I am a lighthouse enthusiast and I was on my back from Vancouver driving down to Seattle and after seeing a few lighthouses in BC, I wanted to make sure I saw Admiralty Head Light, as it is slight diversion off of I-5. While this is obviously a small light, there is a small museum attached with a couple of 4th order Fresnel lenses (the original lens from this light was lost) and other some other displays with historical information. I also had a nice time chatting with the gift shop staff and climbing the short tower. The light is located within Fort Casey state park, and one has to buy a daily pass (for $10) or a yearly pass (not sure how much that was).

    Beautiful light house
We visited the Admiralty Head Lighthouse Interpretive Center. During the Spanish-American War era at the end of the nineteenth century, the government acquired another 123 acres from the Kellogg family for the establishment of Fort Casey near the lighthouse. It seems the best points for placing lights to guide friendly vessels into a passage are also the best points for placing forts to keep unfriendly vessels out. Lighthouses and defense works are close neighbors at several sites along the west coast, including Admiralty Head, Point Wilson, and Marrowstone Point in Washington, Point Bonita and Fort Point near San Francisco, and Point Loma in San Diego. As the wooden Admiralty Head Lighthouse stood on an ideal location for one of the fort’s gun emplacements, it was relocated in 1899 as a temporary measure while a new lighthouse was built.
