Best way to see the real Fiji
We only did one trip away from the island and that was a Half Day Sigatoka River Jetboat & Village Tour this was booked with the beautiful Bella at the hut as you walk to your rooms from reception. It was pricey but once we found out that if you book with them, the villages get 30% so I encourage to book at the hut. And make sure to take lots of stuff to give away to the village on your river tour. We highly recommend Capitan Laps wow he defiantly has missed his calling as a V8 supercar driver lol. He was that good our son fell asleep on the way home and he didn’t wake the whole boat ride.

Best experience in Fiji
We only really booked this experience as the kids were bored with activities in the resort, and didn’t have high expectations. Just figured they might enjoy the jet boat. Turned out the jet boat was awesome (big thanks to our awesome captain Leps, who thrilled us all with his 360s) but the village experience was even better. We visited Sautobo, and it was an afternoon we will never forget. The locals were so welcoming and genuine. The lunch they prepared for us was some of the best food we have eaten anywhere (special mention to the vegetarian options, including curry potato roti). And dancing to the locals’ beautiful renditions of traditional music was just a joyous experience. It was a genuinely humbling afternoon that we will definitely do again. Huge thanks to all at Sigatoka River Safari, from our hilarious guide on our bus ride, to the humble and highly informative Captain Leps. Vinaka.

Family friendly fun and culture combination
This was our first time in Fiji. We felt so privileged, given the pandemic, that we had an opportunity to visit a village. We went with our 6 and 7 year old boys on the Sigatoka River Safari. It was the right mix of fun and cultural experience. It was a really warm sticky day but we were all hot and sweaty together which didn't stop us from finishing our lunch with a dance with the villagers. The boat ride up is fast with a few stops along the way to get some local knowledge. The village visit involved a traditional welcoming ceremony, including kava using covid safe practices, a beautiful meal eaten traditionally on the floor. My boys enjoyed rice, fried egg, sausage, a potato curry wrap and some cordial and fruit. There were so many more options food wise for everyone but bring snacks for the kids if they are pretty fussy with food. The jet boat ride back was hugely refreshing with a few 360 turns leaving us on the edges pretty wet. Definitely bring a change of clothes and towel as recommended. You have a chance to buy some treats for the village kids before you head off. We unfortunately forgot our wallet so didn't participate in this accepted but not expected practice of bringing something for the kids. Captain 'Jack' was a fantastic guide along the river and we would recommend this tour if you ever are in the area. We absolutely loved it!
