Caticugan Marine Sanctuary, Visayas, Philippines

4.5 (6 reviews) Spent Ranking #25 in Siquijor Island Bodies of Water

Close to my dads house, A up close experience!

My dad who is a permanent resident of Siquijor with his wife and my little brother lives in Caticugan village so naturally, my first day of arrival he took me to the baybay (beach) where the marine sanctuary is. It was a super nice first impression of the island as we got to walk across bamboo stilt bridges and check things out, it is free as far as I know. The one worker who was there was explaining to us what fish were in there (talapia) and that the jelly fish have severe stings, a jellyfish was so well blended we thought it was just a rock with moss on it. So be careful of that if you decide to go in the water near by! It was simple, not much too it, but still cool to see the fish hatcheries and to walk on the makeshift bridges and check out some mangroves! We visited in September 2014.

    Snorkle spot
Wasn't initially planning on going here, but it was close to where i was staying so i thought i'd check it out. I'm very glad that i did! I went snorkeling in the water and it was quite nice. The highlight for me were the large clams. there was also some nice coral and pretty fishes, but i hadn't seen big clams before, so that was special. the water was very choppy when i was there, so that made it a little more challenging. But it was not too difficult. Overall, i'm glad i went and would recommend it.
