Exceeded our expectations

We hadn't planned on visiting this museum, but decided to take the plunge after talking to some other tourists who recommended it. We knew nothing about Sisi beforehand, but got a thorough insight into her life through the audioguide. We didn't mind the silverware and porcelain section at the start. We found the narratives for this museum and the Schonnbrunn Palace to be extremely similar, so save your Euros and just do one or the other. Given a choice, I'd say the museum was better value for money (several hours of stuff to see vs. the Palace's 40 minutes plus extra time seeing the free gardens) and less busy.

    Chinaware, silverware and palace rooms
The place was crowded even in December, and it was slow going through the three main sections of the museum. The first two sections of the museum on the bottom floor housed the chinaware and silverware collection, where one can browse through quickly. The upper floor of the palace is really the highlight with more to see with a lot of focus on Sisi's life. The audio guide is included in the ticket and really necessary for the entire museum visit.

A small letdown for a must do
The Sissi museum is in fact a three in one package including an enormous silverware collection and the imperial chambers of the Habsburgers. The silverware wasn't really my cup of tea. There's only so much you can show before cutlery becomes boring. The imperial chambers are nice to see, but there are plenty of other opportunities (Albertina, Schönbrunn, State Hall) to see similar chambers. The expo built around the mythical figure of Sissi was basic and to the point. A nice combination of different things to see, but the entry price is kind of steep in my opinion and even in times of Covid it can become crowded, especially the first area with the silver collection.
