Great place to learn to ski

This is a real hidden gem. The ski instructor staff (Gayle, Barney and Keith) were great, friendly and knowledgeable. This is my husband’s and I first time skiing and it was so much fun. Our kids had skied one other time and they thought this was a great refresher. The only complaints are that it is super busy in the ski shop, it was a little chaotic trying to get our ski equipment. The staff wasn’t very helpful in this area. They basically handed it to us and left. We had to wait 20 minutes to exchange my daughter’s boots because they were to small and the staff had disappeared. They really need to build a separate building for the ski equipment rental and they need to install lockable lockers. This would help clear up some of the congestion. But the price is great and way more affordable then Stowe.

Best Place in VT To Teach a Child to Ski
We started our Grandson in Cochran's program when he was 5. After his first lesson he was actually skiing After the 1st year he was doing very well and after the 2nd was ready to move on. The staff is SUPER and show they really care about their students - making it fun while learning. Where else can you get a one on one with an Olympic Gold Medal winner! He's now grown up and masters all the black diamonds at several VT ski areas.

    Skiing as it SHOULD be!
Remember when you were a kid? The local, family-run ski area was where you learned to love the sport. It had a rope tow, or if it was really fancy, maybe a T-Bar. The base lodge had friendly folks who would serve you a hot dog & some hot chocolate. Cochran's is still like that! EVERYONE there is super friendly! My six year old granddaughter was there today for her first day ever on skis, and by the end of one lesson was zipping down the hill, turning both ways, and coming to controlled stops at the base. No, it does NOT have a 2,000' vertical drop . . . . but it doesn't chrage as though it did, either. The prices are rock-bottom. Take it from a 72 year old grandfather who has skied all over the country and is a certified instructor with decades of experience. You will have more fun, dollar for dollar, at Cochran's than you will at ANY of the huge, impersonal, crowded, expensive mountains elsewhere. Skiing at its' roots, folks! Cochran's is the best!
