Nicely designed, focused on kids

Very good and well-maintained museum, beautifully and knowledgeably designed. It’s only in Spanish though and rather focused on kids than adults with simple explanations. Still worth a (free) visit though if you’re passing (like us).

    Interesting
Natural history museum of Valparaiso is located on one of its central streets. No entrance fee is required. There is an appreciable collection of insects and trout to mammals and birds. The fact is that the city has many better things to see and do, but if you pass by take a look. In the museum there is a very beautiful café.

    A hidden gem
This museum will be overlooked by the vast majority of visitors to Valparaiso. What a shame. It is an excellent small museum about the natural history of Chile's Region V, which includes Valparaiso, but also stretches to Mt. Aconcagua as well as Eastern Island the Juan Fernandez Islands. The museum was updated in recent years and has interesting exhibits on the region's flora and fauna, including marine wildlife. It also features exhibits on Charles Darwin's visit to the region in the 1830s and the ongoing excavation of Valparaiso's 19th century wharf. I learned a ton during a 90 minute visit. Adjoined to the museum is a a good gift shop and an excellent Victorian era coffee shop. And all of this for the price of - free!
