Viking Line - Day Cruises, Uusimaa, Finland

Pleasant one-way journey to Stockholm

From our previous cruise, we got a tax-free voucher. With that, the price for a renovated A4T cabin with a television was only 20 euros. My partner used his 920 boats away and the price dropped still 9,20. With the special breakfasts, the total price was just 54,80. One criticism about the Viking Club is that we cannot collect boats to the same account as in Tallink Silja. Also, the benefits are quite minimal. For 1 euro consumed you get one boat or two boats (at Plus level). The value for one boat is 1 cent. So you get a 1% or 2% discount as a Viking Club member for the money used. We had a pleasant dinner at the Grill restaurant. Also, the special breakfast was very enjoyable. There were not many guests and you could order the warm dish from the menu. The service was friendly everywhere.

    Good alternative to flying
We took the Viking Line ship MS Gabriella from Helsinki to Stockholm. We booked a Lux Seaside Premium Balcony room, which was not cheap at 482 euro (per cabin for two), (including buffet dinner (with beer and wine) and premium champagne breakfast included), but there are also much cheaper options. The price compares favourably with flying since it covers very good accommodation for one night plus the transfer to Stockholm; including the cruise through the Stockholm Archipelago in the morning (unfortunately it was raining steadily on the morning of our arrival so the views were rather limited). Both meals were very good, with a full range of Nordic cuisine available. Duty free shops had a good range but prices were not that special (compared to Singapore airport). Others have talked about entertainment options and noise but perhaps since we were on the top deck and tired, we didn’t even notice that either existed. Check in was easy, boarding was OK but a long wait for an elevator once on board as there is only one that services the top deck (similar for disembarking with luggage). For the rest of the time we just used any lift and walked the last flight of stairs as it was quicker. There is not really a lot of notice for disembarkation so make sure you have your bags all packed well in advance. Although the Viking line berth is close to the city centre in Stockholm, we still managed to get totally ripped off by a taxi on arrival – as said before it was raining heavily on arrival and so we just grabbed the closest car which was probably not a genuine taxi, so beware.

    Nice vessel, buffet disappointing
The vessel XPRS is nice, a lot of places to sit and drink or eat. But the buffet we had been waiting for on the way back in the evening was a big disappointment. The food was ok but the restaurant was very noisy and restless and long queues and not too much time since they shut down the place already 1 hour before coming to port. Can not recommend.
