Brunberg is Finland's oldest sweets factory. For 150 years, Brunberg has produced tasty sweets of high quality in Porvoo. Chocolate kisses, marmalade, truffle and liquorice have worked their way into the hearts of the Finnish people. Also unique products are manufactured; for example, Brunberg is the only Nordic producer of lactose free milk chocolate. There are sweets suitable for everyone: lactose-free, sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan options.

Cute and cheap
Of course we've seen many of these products in shops all over Finland. However, to actually get them from the original factory shop has a novelty attached to it and I left happy. Also, it was a lot cheaper there than in the supermarkets where their products are offered. That really surprised me. We left with chocolate for all. I'm saving my chocolate orange for New Years Day as a nice treat to start the year.

If you love chocolate – I mean reeeally love chocolate!
If you love chocolate – I mean reeeally love chocolate, Brunberg’s is your shop. It’s located toward the end of main street of the charming, picture perfect old town of Porvoo, Finland. When we visited, the line stretched out the door of the tiny shop. But, these people know how to keep a line moving so don’t be put off by that. They have chocolates in bars and boxes but your best value is by the bag. Just inside the door are bags of little chocolates that look like toffee twists. There are several flavors including plain, mocha and caramel. They are so creamy that they melt fairly quickly so I recommend refrigeration. Pop it in your mouth cold and it immediately softens to the creamiest chocolate imaginable. It is a perfect blend of cocoa, sugar and dairy. You can clearly taste the cocoa more than most chocolates but without the bite of dark chocolate although I suspect they have that too. It’s not a good item to mail order due to melting. We’re plotting how to go back to Porvoo next summer to buy more.
