Hence Haridwar means Gateway to the Lord. These four spots have today become places where the Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 12 years in succession - Nasik, Ujjain, Haridwar and Allahabad. Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple image
HIGHLY RECCOMEND if you are in Lansdown or around. It's about an hour drive from Lansdowne city center. My biggest complaints at all the popular Hindu places of worship is that its hard to find peace. But this place - OH MY GOD, this place is the stuff of dreams. Its in a valley surrounded by beautiful devdar trees and as we decent near to temple, the views are mind blowing. The temple is amidst the woods - if you are there at the sunrise it just elevates the experience and view as the sunlight filters down from the treetops. See more..

    - ROPEWAY Makes it easy . One of the Shakti Peets with Outstanding views
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
    Surkanda Devi Temple image
The ropeway (which started in May 22)made it quite easy to visit. One of the Shakti Peets where the Head of Mata Sati fell and hence Mata's head is only seen in the temple. The views from the temple (and the path) are stunning as the temple is at over 10000 feet above Sea level Due to winds the ropeway stopped working around 1130 am and we walked down via walking path which was very beautiful. (In due course locals feel the walking path may fall into disuse due to the ropeway. ) We came from Harsil via Uttarkashi and the NH34 indicated by Google Maps was being reparied/repaved so the journey was terrible. Do not trust Google maps and ask for directions. There is no phone number to the ropeway as far as I know. So you cannot ascertain if it is working. Ropeway usually stops at 5pm. See more..

    Tapkeshwar Temple image
If you want to experience true bliss and peace, this is one of the places you should visit. You will need to climb down a few steps to reach the main sanctum sanctorum. But the atmosphere around the temple is very calm and soothing. Inside there is the main Shivling and Trishul. Outside the main temple, there are benches kept which can be used to sit for a while. While one staircase goes inside the temple, the other goes further below to the area where the river is flowing. The river's water directly coming down from the mountains is super clean, and you can literally feel the cold temperature. Overall, the area is very peaceful, and no matter what tour you wish to finish, this temple is a must-visit place to experience peace and tranquility. See more..

  22. 4.5 Daksh Mahadev Temple (196 reviews)
    - A must visit temple and one that makes you feel calm !!!
    Religious Sites
    Daksh Mahadev Temple image
The temple is a beautiful place with the environment offering peace and tranquility. It is primarily famous due to the story that this was the same place where goddess Sati burnt herself by jumping into the fire, and the same kund, as they call it, is also revered and worshipped here. The temple area is divided into various parts, and almost all the important Hindu deities are worshipped at this place. However, it is clearly stated that clicking photos inside the temple premises is strictly prohibited. The area behind the temple is serene. There is a ghat built where people perform puja. You can also sit and relax since the water flowing is soothing to watch, and dipping your feet in it helps you calm down due to the cool temperature. But overall, this place is worth the visit partly due to its importance in the Hindu scriptures and also because of the aura the area has of making you feel calm and composed !!!! See more..

    - Truly Divine
    Religious Sites
    Hemkund Sahib image
Hemkund Sahib was a last minute addition in our already chalked out Chardham Yatra itinerary & I'm so happy & grateful that we did it. If you stay in Govindghat the helipad is very close & you may take a pony ahead or just walk it up. But after you reach the top you will certainly be rejuvenated by the positive vibes of this most revered pilgrimage of Sikhs with a wonderful serene lake in its vicinity. Do not miss the Lokpal Laxman temple which is adjacent to this Gurudwara where Lord Laxman had meditated. This is the only temple in the whole of India which is dedicated to Lord Laxman alone. Not to be missed pilgrimage when you are on a Chardham Yatra regardless of your religion. The efforts for the climb are really worth the satisfaction you will achieve after visiting this Gurudwara. Very highly recommended for sure. See more..

    Patal Bhuvaneshwar Cave Temple image
    1. A must stay place for viewing 180 degree Himalayas. The best time is Nov-Dec to view the snow claden mountains. 2. Both sunrise and sunset are not to be missed- wonderful colouration. 3. Probably the mountain views are better as compared to Binsar and the KMVN is much cheaper. The facilities are moderate and only veg foods are provided. 4. The minimum temperature is close to 0 degree during the winters but there are no room heaters and this is a problem. 5. The Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave is bit difficult for elderly people but there will be a guide cum priest, who will help you out. 6. I strongly feel that people should spend one night at least on their way to Chaukori or Munsiari. 7. The place is about 10 km from Gangolihat and around 90 Km from Lohaghat and the KMVN lodge is within the cave complex but it is not drive inn. One has to climb down about 20-25 steps in order to reach the TRH. Also, it is around 35 Km from Chaukori. See more..

Auli is a littele gem in Gahrwal. Its 16km from Joshimath. I visited Auli during march 2013. The moment you will enter the compund of GMVN Auli resort its a different world altogether. I haven't seen the himalayan peaks so close before. The trishul, the Nandadevis were tantalizingly close. Since its almost 10K feet abve sea level, one day should be kept to get used to the thin air at high altitude. On the second day we went for a trek till Garson bugyal. The trek was amazing. As we climbed up the snow increased, and the view got better. We almost trekked for 4 hours. There is also a chair lift service from GMVN till the cliff top resort Auli. It costs 300 rupees per person both ways, but its not worth. Its better to trek and enjoy the views See more..

Visited the temple in June’22. The way to the temple is through a forest trek with beautiful views of pine trees, small streams, birds call etc., it took around 45-50 minutes leisurely walk and with small breaks in between to reach the temple. However, the pathway has ups and downs, rocky surface, at places slippery and stairs, hence may be difficult for Sr. Citizen and Kids. The temple is small and well maintained, we offered prayer peacefully. During our visit, the adjacent waterfall had very small stream of water, spotted couple of people taking bath in the waterfalls. We hired a local guide @ Rs. 300, which was helpful during the trek. Couple of small shops that selling basic snacks and cold drinks are available at the starting point. Ma Anandamayee Ashram image
Anandamayi Ma's samadhi temple is lovely and peaceful. One can stay and meditate as long as one wishes during it's open hours, which is most of day. Visitors come and go. Although some do not respect the silence of the place, they are usually gone quickly. I wrote for permission to stay at Anandamayi Ma International Centre for three days. On arriving there and seeing my room I confess I broke down in tears of happiness. I'd been having a difficult time for the past ten days after having twisted my knee and sprained my ankle on a trek to Vasudhara Falls, then trying to survive the fierce heat, pollution and crowds of thousands at the end of Dussehra in Rishikesh. The room and bath at Ma's Centre were so nicely outfitted! Everything was pristinely clean and in good repair; towels, bedding, bath rug, etc. From every wall, pictures of Ma offered comfort and inspiration. It was nicer than any of the so-called 5 star hotels I'd stayed at; never-mind some of the threadbare ashrams. The food that the cook went to market for in the morning was delicious and ample. It was sattvic and prepared with love. The staff at the centre and the people who managed the two small shops by Ma's samadhi emulated a genuine spirit of care. A few minutes away was a nice ghat where I went every day and soaked my injuries in the healing waters of Mother Ganga. So grateful to have experienced this unassuming, yet love-permeated place. Situated in a small vllage in dense, thick forests off a few kilometers from Sonprayag, on the way to Kedarnath Shrine. It is said that their holy marriage pyre - Havan Kund, has been kept burning for three cosmic yugas, hence the temple is also referred to as the Akhand Dhuni temple. See more..
