Worth the Effort!

For me, 59 and carrying more weight than I should, found the hike to be challenging. My wife who is in better shape and other younger people we ran into on the trail seemed to be manage very well. Awesome views and some adrenaline pumping moments make this a memorable hike. We actually got caught in a rain/hail storm on the hike back. We had to take shelter under a pinion tree! The rain added a degree of difficulty but we made it. Along the the drive, stop at Thompson Springs to view the petroglyphs.

    Corona Arch
One of the easier hikes to an arch. There is a cable assist and a ladder to negotiate but both aren't too difficult. There is a walk around the ladder if you have your dog with you. Suggest you take some time to sit under the arch for awhile as it's shaded and gives you an up close and personal sensation of the size of the formation. No "hike" in Arches is what is what you might typically think of as a hike. You are always walking on the slick rock or scrambling up or going around some large rocks. Some paths are on the red dirt but usually these portions are short. Because of the frequent scrambling I suggest using a hydration pack (CamellBak type) rather than relying on a single water bottle you hold in your hand. Seldom are the trails marked with signs or arrows to aid in your route finding. There are many people on this hike so you really can't get lost or off trail.

    Great Hike w/ Multiple Arches
The hike to Corona arch is beautiful. There are several other arches along the way which makes the hike go by faster. There's one spot where you have to climb up the side of a rock wall, but they have foot holes in the rock and there are chains to grab on to. I recommend starting the hike early in the morning when it's cooler because there is little shade in the hike. You are exposed to the sun the entire time, and the initial mile or so is up hill.
