The museum is good with a lot of bigger engines from old times and the guided tour is very informative if you have an interest in the locomotive stuff.

Great Museum off the tourist track
25 minute walk from the Old Town, this museum is I feel just off the main tourist track - which is a shame as its a great place to visit. I and a friend made the (short) walk on a Saturday morning and we ere the only visitors in the whole place. Spread out over a couple of sheds - the main shed houses a number of lovingly restored massive old engines, whilst the opposite building houses a mix of signals, communications, uniforms and other related artefacts. Outside at the rear the massive engine shed is the main turntable and more rolling stock and engines as well as cranes and track-side buildings. This site is well worth a visit and is free if you have purchased the Ljubljana tourist city card (if not its not expensive - roughly 3 euros) Its main issue is lack of signage and its out of the way location (to most tourists) Make an effort - google its location and take a walk if your in Ljubljana!
