Discover the magic of the lake that attracts travellers from near and far. The current unique shape of the year did not emerge coincidentally. A tectonic hole made by the Bohinj glacier through the years, was once at the location of the present lake. Its path was obstructed by a huge rock which was so persistently scraped that the only thing that remained was the present island. The ice melted and the basin was filled with water, thus Lake Bled emerged, which is in some places up to 30 metres deep and quite popular amongst divers. 19 species of fish live in the lake, including carp, sheatfish and lake trout. Ducks and swans as well as diverse plants also swim and thrive on its surface.

Lake Bled - have a row, have a pizza give the cake and castle a miss.
The highlights for us were taking a row boat out for around 1 hr 45 mins , with my wife in the stern and me on the oars and Dean Martins greatest hits playing on full volume from the bottom of the boat whilst we meandered around the crystal clear waters of the lake. cost 30 euros value priceless ! our advice, forget about the castle, they should pay you to walk up there, seriously its a bit of a hike and certainly nothing , and i mean nothing could have made me part with a further 26 euros for the dubious opportunity to explore the castle. Personally i think the Ljubljana castle which is free to explore the majority of places is much much nicer and beautifully and sensitively enhanced by some modern upgrades. I dont know who the architect was but i hope they paid them well because they have done a cracking job of restoration and creating purposeful spaces that are a delight. well done. Back to lake bled. We tried the bled cake, ho hum, dont bother, ive eaten french vanilla custard slices in Australia and many other places that were significantly better for less. The Zaka pizza from the camp ground cafe/ restaurant off the walking trail near the boat house is another story altogether. This is a pizza with a smack you in the face take no prisoners fantastic taste. It was worth the bus trip just to eat it. fantastic. Anyway .... in summary give the castle a miss , give the church a miss, give the bled cake a miss, spend your money just lazing around in a rowboat with the love of your life then take a stroll back to Zaka Restaurant and have the Zaka Pizza - lifes great.

Dreamy Lake Bled
Gorgeous lake with turquoise water and beautiful scenery. I would highly recommend renting a boat and rowing across the lake to the small island. Easily one of the most beautiful places Ive been to yet.
