A spectacular alien-like landscape
A breathtakingly beautiful lake, largely due to the spectacular mountain landscape surrounding it. The mountains to the south of the lake are particularly unique – as if they could be from an alien planet – with a cluster of peaks that look like sharp canine teeth. If you are only here for a short time, walk a short distance east along the northern side of the lake to have the more interesting backdrop to the lake.

Heaven on earth a-MUST
Going to this stunning place is so easy, you can do by bus from Bad Ischl which will take you right to the lake. From the bus stop walk a few steps you will see the heaven on earth. There is a restuarant there. We walked around the lake slowly because it's so beautiful that we have to stop and take pix. We have some pix to share in case you dont believe. We went during a final week of October and found it fantastically colorful. We suggest to go in the morning, sunlight is more beautiful. You can combine Hallstatt, Five fingers and Gosausee since they are in the nearby area.

Two beautiful Lakes worth a days hike
Hiking the Upper Austrian lakes and on a clear, September day we decided to hike the Vorderer and the Hinterer. The trails are well marked and an easy walk/stroll. The lakes are clear and with no wind make for a spectacular reflection of the surrounding mountains (great for pictures.) There is a place to get something to eat and/or drink, but I recommend bringing a meal and enjoying it lakeside. One down side, too many are not taking advantage of the many trash cans and either putting their trash in them or carrying their trash out. Don't spoil these beautiful lakes and their surroundings.
