V.O.I.M.M.A. Community Reserve, Toamasina Province, Madagascar

4.5 (57 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #4 in Andasibe National Parks

Excellent park

Well maintained trails really help the trek through the forest to see the creatures. Lemur of course are the stars but do not overlook the other critters. Frogs, insects, chameleon and even a snake. Three hours just about wore me out but so worth it. Do not miss this one.

    Very interesting community run Reserve
After visiting the Andasibe national park we spent the afternoon in this smaller community run reserve. The entry fee supports the local villagers, that also educate guides and have small reforestation projects in the area. The visit was interesting both because of the guide (Honore) who spoke english quite well and therefore was able to explain the history of the site and the animals. Though covering a small area, we saw indris, Parsons Chameleon, Tenrecs,Drongo, an own and common brown lemurs.

    Best park we visited!
We visited this communities park three times, once at night, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon, and it delivered amazing safari experiences! We saw many different types of lemurs, chameleons, and frogs. We heard indri singing, saw camouflaged chameleons and the smallest chameleon. It is very close to Mantadia Forest Lodge, where we stayed, so we managed to pop in for a couple of hours walk on travel days. Thierry, our guide, was very knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. The park also has a very nice shop. All fees directly benefit the local community, so it felt like responsible tourism as well.
