Fort Manda

A really interesting part of Madagascar's history the only surviving fort along the coast with most of its cannons, really well run tour done by a local gent with little government backing, well preserved piece of history worth stopping at for an hour or so.

    Great fort!
Great fort for madagascar. I've travelled around the world quite a bit and i've seen some pretty impressive forts... This is not the same calibre BUT it is still quite impressive to see how this fort was built and how thick the walls were. The history of the place was also quite interesting but as many already said the french version of the tour is much better than the english version of it. The guide was very good and friendly. Took us around the fort and told us all the stories. It was a lot of fun. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

Fort Manda as the historical site of Foulpointe
On a tour in the East of Madagascar, villagers of Foulpointe told us to visit Fort Manda. It was built in the 19th century to prevent foreign invasion from sea. The thick, timeless walls are made of eggshells, sand and water. The Fort Manda is an old building with no furniture left. People bring offerings to the old tree in the yard to seek blessings from the ancestors' spirits.
