Great park in the middle of Suburbia
I'm not sure what type of 'park' people expect to exist smack bang in the middle of suburbia, but this is a great place to visit and unplug! I often come to jog on the trails or just sit under a tree and read a book. The vegetation is mixed: meadow, swamp, lake, wooded areas and the park links to several others trails and reserves in the surrounding area. I believe the city has done a great job maintaining the area and providing ample free parking and amenities to residents. The main path is wide and well maintained, toilets are clean and actually flush, water fountains are available, park benches are scattered along the trail for those who need to rest or just take in nature. BBQ and covered seating areas are available near the Nature Retreat Centre. The path is shaded at different times of the day, so come prepared with sunscreen, hat & water if you plan to explore in the heat! The negative comments in previous reviews lead me to believe that some individuals haven't actually investigated the area properly, and perhaps need to go out in the middle of Texas if what they are looking for is a pristine/isolated/authentic experience. This reserve is as authentic as it's going to get, and residents are very lucky this parcel of land did not succumb to development! It looks as though some areas might be regenerating, which is also good management. Yes, you can see houses - the park is in the middle of suburbia! Yes, the main path is quite wide and made of concrete - i'm happy about that since i like to jog all year round and wish to avoid snake bite in summer. Also, being a multi-use path, it means i do not have to run in the grass, mud or a ditch when a cyclist comes speeding toward me from either direction. From a maintenance point of view, it is probably preferable. Yes, there may be dog poop on the trails - this is evident across the country, in every neighbourhood. Until lazy, ill-educated dog owners become solely responsible for their pets this ugly problem will always exist. The dirt trails to the south of Rowlett Creek are wonderful - i have run on all of them - they are looped and interconnecting and i rarely see anyone else on them. I access them from the parking area off E Spring Creek Pkwy. This is my favourite part of the park for sure!

Out for a stroll/hike to explore
Good location to go walking with the grand kids. You can stay on the paved path or get out in the field or woods, depending on your preference since there are plenty of trails. There is a stream to explore a little and also play ground so enjoy the sites..
