Great place to learn about the culture, lifestyle of ranching and cattle breeding during the 1800's in the west.
My wife and I visited the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock, TX today. What great way to spend half of a day learning about life in the west, ranching and raising cattle in the 1800’s. The Center has an indoor museum and outdoor displays. The inside museum has exhibits about cattle breeding, the types of cattle and what they are used for. They also have a great display of bronze sculptures by T. D. Kelsey. “The sculptures depict various aspects of cowboy life from trail drives to dangers on the trail”. There is also a small gun exhibit of the firearms used during that era. The outside exhibit includes about 50 original building that were moved from their original sites and brought to the Heritage Center. They can be viewed on the 15 acre site they now stand on. The center does not have any food service but has nice clean restrooms and a small gift shop. It is easy to get to and has a large parking lot. Parking is free. This venue would probably be boring for younger children. The admission and parking are free the staff is friendly.

Go on a nice day. There is more outside than inside.
There is no admission fee. The best part is a trail that that winds around 45 old buildings that have been moved to this 19 acre site to preserve them. The inside museum was huge and attractive but everything was widely spaced and there really wasn’t that much there. They had a room with some beautiful, antique firearms of the old west. There was an exhibit of the history of cattle breeds, a theater that showed video clips of cowboys telling stories and a nice spur collection.
