    Beautiful Affordable Christmas Lights
First we love to camp at Inks Lake State Park. This Christmas I was on the look out for affordable family fun. I definitely found it with the short scenic drive from ILSP to Johnson City. The lights were beautiful. My very skeptical family and in laws were impressed. You could have taken pictures with the Grinch (we chose not to). Too cute. The props were very fun. Many of the shops were open and invited families. I would have liked to visit the brewery, but did not feel it was appropriate for the family evening we were enjoying. It looked like fun. As a parent of a special needs child, my report is most outside events would have been accessible by wheelchair. The courthouse with the beautiful hand made crafts might have been a little tricky. I did not try, but I have no doubt the lovely people of Johnson City would have done their best to accommodate on the horse drawn carriage rides or tractor pulled hay rides. It was a very calm and peaceful event. Not a lot of noise. So all in all safe for special needs. I would call the chamber in the future if you plan to visit with special needs members just to make sure you can enjoy everything you want to enjoy. Thank you Johnson City for the wonderful display of lights. The amazing people and the creative Christmas Fun. My family and I will definitely return! Don’t forget you can help continue spreading the Christmas Spirit with a donation in the donation box on the square.

Very Nice Light Display, but Don't Go for the Food
About a 1 hour drive from Austin, it was worth going one time. The Blanco Court House is nice, but the Pedernales Electric display is not to be missed. We went on Jan 1, so a lot of the activity pre-Christmas (carolers, Santa, Grinch, fireworks, etc) was not there. Dining options are very limited. We ate at the Proof and Cooper where the brisket was dried out and lacked flavor. The only mobile food trailer was a 4H fundraiser with coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider. Bottomline, go for the lights, spend about an hour looking at the 3 main displays and then drive to a restaurant.
