History and nature buffs gonna love this place.
This is a war history buffs place to be! So fun and so rich in history and stories and facts of the Fort. It sits at just a hair under 1 mile in elevation hence the city nickname. The surrounding bluffs and trails actually put you above 1 mile. They have several miles of trails around the Fort so you can hike and get history all in one. Visitor center is really cool also with information videos and tons of gifts as well as staff to help guide you on tours. The Fort big so plan to walk around. The hospital building is fully restored and really cool. Best one of it's time west of San Antonio they said to us.

Traveling with 7 Year Old Grandson
We take our grandson for a few weeks each year to experience the nature and history of our great nation. This summer we were in west Texas and New Mexico. Fort Davis National Historic Site is perfect for a little adventure and education for the younger generation. The site is not so large that we older folks tire out but it is large enough to have a lot to see. Many of the building are restored and have period furnishing installed. Some of the buildings are in various states of disrepair so that you can understand what the site went through over the years. There are ample displays to interest a youngster, while the history depicted pleases the older crowd.
