A surprise in Shemshak
Thinking I was headed to a rural area, I was psychologically preparing myself to spend the night at some run down hotel that charges Waldorf prices because there is nothing else. And that’s where the surprise kicked in. Before heading up the mountain we stopped by a brand new building known as Sierra. As if the name wasn’t surprising enough, the service and offerings were even more surprising. This place had a fully stacked super market offering both foreign and domestic products, a gym equipped with state of the art equipment and a spin room (which I unfortunately didn’t get to utilize), a sports shop selling pretty much anything that you may have forgotten and a wide range of clothing (the prices are high compared to US, no bargain shopping). As far as dining is concerned there was a fast food diner under the supervision of KFC, Carls Jr / Hardees and Pizza Hut on the first floor. On the third floor there is a gourmet café (Balcony) where they offer a full menu of freshly prepared dishes by professional cooks. This commercial complex is built beneath a residential complex. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner of one of the units which was for rent at the time. He offered me a short term rental at a reasonable price. great place
Shemshak ski area is the third biggest in Iran behind Dizin and Darbandsar. The 2x chairlifts (2 seats) starting from the village serve the summit. From the top, you can access several slopes with varying difficulties. 2x ski lifts also reach the summit. A small ski lift in the village is dedicated to the beginner area. The ski resort offers numerous off-piste trails, reachable straight from its top.
