Hercules Cave, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Morocco

4.0 (1.880 reviews) Spent Ranking #7 in Tangier Caverns & Caves

Super views

Did Hercules rest here? Who knows the truth…but the legend does make for a more interesting visit. It is said that the cave was discovered several thousand years ago and made larger by locals who carved bits of the stone for their own use at home. Walk down the sloped cobblestones to the inside of the rock and you’ll be treated to a truly special view of the ocean. Good walking shoes are a must and those who have trouble walking should take care. It is worth it for the view. Outside there is a plaza with some restaurants and restrooms - you’ll be asked for a euro to use them by the old woman stationed there. Lots of cats wander around as well, likely fed by tourists and the trash bins from the restaurants. Interesting place!

    I suppose it is interesting
It was a rainy windy day so we explored the outside area briefly and then went inside where we paid a small fee. There are local guides that offer to give you a guided tour but the area is so small and covered with small decorations that there isn't much to see. We passed on the tour and I can't imagine a guide would have had much to say. It's a bit interesting but I wouldn't go out of my way to see this site.
