Kirov Reservoir - fantastic Soviet period art incorporated into the dam and surroundings
The Kirov Reservoir is in Talas. Few tourists go to Talas but its is well worth visiting. The Kirov Reservoir has a fantastic bust of Lenin carved into the dam wall. Its quite a site, quite a view and best understood and appreciated by looking at the pictures that follow. Across from the reservoir area is a group of sculptures of workers - very soviet period, quite stark and unique artifacts of a bygone era. The Kirov Reservoir is well worth a visit for those with an interest in Soviet period art/architecture.

Water reservoir surrounded by a Rocky Mountains and a steppe
The reservoir gets its maximum volume in spring when snow melts in the mountains then minimum in autumn when water dispersed to farming lands. Because the shore of the lake is not constant there are no proper beaches for swimming, but you can find wild beaches. Lake is full of fish. Good places for one our stop.

A great place to go fishing in Talas
If your looking to get away from all tourists in Kyrgyzstan go to Talas. Its an interesting place and you will be one of the only tourists they see in the year! Talas is not special like other parts of Kyrgyzstan but it's still worth seeing! The nature is untouched and there is no tour companies or guesthouse trying to rip you off. I like to call it the wild wild west! If you find your self in Talas go to the reservoir with a few beers and go fishing and enjoy the view. Very few people see this part of the country and that's the interesting thing. It's east to get tot he reservoir but at night make sure you have a tent and a good place to put it.
