Best trailride I've ever taken

This was by far the best trailriding experience I have ever had. As a horseback rider, it can be frustrating to take trail rides where either a) everyone just walks along at a slow pace or b) non-riders are made to trot and canter when they are not comfortable doing so. On this ride, I was able to take the reins (no pun intended) and canter out in the open in a big field while my boyfriend, who does not ride, stayed along the fenceline at a walk with the trail guide. They do their best to accommodate you and your group's needs. Worth the 2-hour trip from Dallas, in my opinion, for an authentic trail riding experience. We took a 1-hour ride, I'd expect that you'd see even more scenery on a longer ride. Highly recommend. Want to go back in the future for a longer ride. Reservations are required as they seem to be booked up on some days.

doesn't compare to other trailrides we've done across the states
It was nice to be out for the day with my daughter and it was an average trailride. Some things to take note of though: When you enter the property there are no signs where to park, it is kind of confusing. It seemed unkept/unprofessional. There were no introductions at first, no instructions of where to go or what to do(like basic-you never walk behind a horse-which there was a lot of that going on) It seemed chaotic as to what staff was supposed to do what. There are no waivers to sign, the owner was on her cell phone the whole time trying to take care of things (busy time with spring break). We asked one lady who worked there what our horses' names were and she said, "They don't know them, so it doesn't matter anyways" Every trail ride I have been on the horses know their names and respond to them. We thought that was strange. Watching the staff get the 9 horses into the trailer was also an interesting experience. The trail ride itself was okay, kind of boring, the guy who led it (we were under the impression there would be 2 guides-one in front and back) had just been working there a few weeks, nice guy, but didn't know a lot or didn't offer a lot about OK, the nature, the trail, etc. Another thing to note is that we didn't know that we had to get back into our car and follow the horse trailer to the trailhead to start out. That was fine but...the horse trailer was travelling very fast and was hard to keep up with in an area that we were unfamiliar with. Also, when we were done, we were left on our own to get out of the national recreation area so take a map and make sure you have gas. The worst part was my 12 yo daughter's helmet that I didn't realize until it was too late (it was duct taped together in the front and in the back most of the hard plastic was gone -you could just see the lining). This is unacceptable. For the most part it was fine, we wouldn't do it again though. If you are in the area, you can try it as it seemed to be the only trail ride experience available.
