Museu Oceanográfico Eliézer de C. Rios, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

4.5 (367 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Rio Grande Speciality Museums

Excellent museum to visit if passing through Rio Grande. Good for the entire family, but no translations to english.

Excellent little oceanographic museum, with superb exhibits and fantastic explanatory plaques. Worth the visit for seeing the animals in recuperation. The only downside is that the exhibits are exclusively in portuguese, but that aside, its a great thing to do if passing through Rio Grande.

    large exposition
probably the most interesting feature in the town. Exposition interesting for adults and children. Senior citizens go free (as do children). Includes oceanography and geology and biology.

NOT WORTH THE EFFORT TO VISIT
Rio Grande does not seem to have much to offer the tourist and this museum typifies the town. We saw a couple of sad penguins and a sleeping sea lion and, inside the main building, a number of fairly scruffy exhibits with descriptions only in Portugese (which is fair enough for local consumption but not of much help for the majority of tourists). There is a further set of exhibits, mainly photographs, relating to Antarctic studies and housed in a set of shipping containers but, again, the descriptions were all in Portugese and it was very warm inside the containers.
