Praia do Gunga, State of Alagoas, Brazil

4.5 (16.8k reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Roteiro Beaches

We enjoyed it.

Nice beach with loads of places to seat and eat whereas you prefer a table or lounges. There are loads going on, such as banana boats, jet skis, parapente, boogies and such. Did not find food to be expensive and the beach was not too busy, but in general during our stay in Barra de São Miguel, it was quite all the time on week days and busy on the week end.

    For a full-day outing
Gunga beach is really famous and interesting to go visit if one happens to be in boring Maceió. The only way to get there is either by (rented) car or with an excursion, it takes about 90min. Parking costs 20 reais in the high season and it is wise to leave the car as close to the beach as possible. Down there one finds everything a tourist trap has: expensive restaurants, extortive prices, intrusive "guides" and souvenir shops; nonetheless, one can really ignore all those and make the most of the beach until 15h, since most buses with day tourists start the drive back to Maceió then and everything dies out at 4pm! The beach is really nice but one must be really careful with the under currents, really strong; so much, that bathing is forbidden in some parts, so please respect the signage! The river side is also very nice, photos get to be amazing!
