Just the right size for two hour walk around
Zona Monte Alban it’s just the right size you can get there via a bus from the center of town for 25 pesos each way or 50 round-trip locals will try to sell you a tour for much more than that. The bus goes on the hour up and down the hill, Monte Alban has two high-rise pyramids that you can climb. Make sure you get in line for a ticket. local guides that you can hire to tell you the history and culture of Monte Alban. The museum closes early. Recommend that you go see that first before touring if you’re there in the afternoon. some of the best local artists are also at this location in the parking lot don’t skip going through their shops.

Fun Day Trip
We visited Monte Alban during our visit to Oaxaca. We followed the advice of the manager of our hotel who recommended taking a taxi up to this site and touring it on our own right when it opened (which could be done in 2-3 hours). We felt this advice was perfect for us. It was a quick taxi ride from downtown Oaxaca, we were dropped off at the front at 9am right when it opened and it was easy to get tickets. There were bathrooms to use right when you enter, where there is also a small museum you can walk through. We enjoyed the self tour, there were many signs throughout the site to read and we thought 2-3 hours was enough time to enjoy the site. Of note, there were local guides at the entrance if you wanted to hire them. As we were finishing the crowds definitely started to pick up, so we would definitely recommend going early in the day to avoid this (and the heat). Touring this site was one of the best experiences we had on this trip!
