Best place to watch the sunset
Punta Cometa is most outward point in Zipolite/Mazunte and watching the sunset is worth the 20-25 min hike. Couple of tips... 1. Wear comfortable shoes: The hike has many ups and downs and the terrain is a bit rough, don’t go with your beach sandals 2. Limited parking: If you grab a cab, no problem. But if you rented a car like me, arrive some 45 mins before sunset in order to park as close as possible. 3. You have 2 spots to sun gaze: you can take the side road towards a beach or continue all the way to the top. 4. This is not a party section: I saw some people heading to the point with beers in hand, AFTER the sunset! There are no trash cans at the point and walking back drunk is not recommended

Sunset view.
Every evening people hike to this point to watch the sun set. It has aweso e views along the way and an awesome view once you get there. It's a 10 I Ute walk off the road. There are a number of lookout but the most popular is right at the end.

Tips for Punta Cometa
This is a really enjoyable FREE walk that is probably the top thing to do in Mazunte. Here are my thoughts based on our recent experience. * Although popular at sunset this is also nice to do in the morning, particularly when the weather is clear. It does get quite crowded at sunset. * It can be done either as a in-out track or a circuit. I would recommend the later. Just before the large entrance sign you will note a smaller sign on your right labelled ‘Sendero Coral De Piedra Ponite) - this is the return point for the circuit. I would start by veering left. Once you get to the most southern headland you will need to cross a small beach to a adjacent set of stairs. From here the path gets a little overgrown but is still obvious and can be followed back to that entrance sign that was visible on the right. * A highlight of going in the day is watching the locals (successfully) fish for longtom off the rocks. * I’d wear hiking shoes (Or similar) as it can be uneven in places. * Sunscreen, hat and water would obviously be helpful if going during the day. * You can walk here from anywhere in Mazunte and probably San Augustin (no need to taxi) * There are no bathroom facilities in the area. Overall definitely worth doing if in the area.
