Incredible
The Ethnobotanical Garden of Oaxaca exhibits hundreds of live plant species, all native to Oaxaca. Planting began in 1998 with plants coming from different regions in the state of Oaxaca; such as arid, humid, low tropical and high mountainous temperate zones. The garden represents the broad diversity of geological formations, types of vegetation and climates that characterize Oaxaca.

Take the tour!
We visited in August 2022 and there were limits on the number of visitors due to COVID. At the time they were allowing 25 visitors on the English speaking tour (once a day at 11am). When I heard it was 1.5-2 hours and 100 pesos I was a bit unsure as to what we had signed up for.. and what could possibly take that much time.. but it was fantastic! The tour guide was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They offered us umbrellas or hats to help with the heat/sun before we started. The tour was extremely interesting and gave us the information on both the plants and the people of Oaxaca and how the gardens reflected the past and also how people used plants in the modern day. The gardens are split into different sections and the tour will talk you through the different areas, the plants and also background information on the relationships between the plants and people and some history of Oaxaca and the buildings in the local area. We found the tour information to be really interesting and a lot we wouldn’t have known without the tour, so it was definitely worthwhile. There are toilets on site but I would recommend taking a bottle of water in with you.

Incredible
This is a can't miss place to visit in Oaxaca! Unfortunately you can't go by yourself, you are required to take a tour. And the English tour is double price of the Spanish tour. Irony is the Spanish tour is led by an American so why the price difference? The English tour had double the amount of people in it. The tour is one hour but that doesn't give you enough time to take pictures among the cacti which is the most interesting part of the garden. There's guards inside the garden that tell you to hurry up and rejoin your tour if you hang back to take photos. They have a storage room where you can leave your large bags while you take the tour. They also have a free hat rental as it gets quite sunny at noon. They have really nice modern bathrooms, however you are required to get toilet paper from the security guard at the entrance. How ghetto is that? They could lock the toilet paper inside the container in the stall, there's no reason such a nice bathroom shouldn't have toilet paper. You can only use it if you bought a ticket for the tour so it's not like random people off the street are entering.
