An 'energising' visit - and it's free!
By a fortunate coincidence, our hotel (the Borealis Hotel) was less than a mile away so we took a stroll to this exhibition (interestingly we experienced gale force winds, then warm sunshine, then a hailstorm during the 20 minute walk!). We had the exhibition to ourselves and spent a happy hour pressing buttons and turning wheels in a manner most unbefitting a couple in their early sixties. But it's that kind of place: it excites curiosity at the same time as encouraging one to realise just how much humanity has mastered its environment. Then, fortified by the free hot chocolate, it was back into Iceland's wonderful weather (four seasons in one hour) to be reminded that nature still has the upper hand in so many ways...

    Interesting visitors centre
This is a working hydro-electric power station with a smallish free museum/visitors center which provides an introduction to some of the technical principles of generating electricity and explains how the power station works. A bit like a mini science museum. Good for adults and children alike but probably only for a quite short visit. There are toilets on site and a free hot drinks machine (when it works).
