    Not worth a detour
We took a detour to drive up to this attraction, thinking we had found a real visitor center. We were sadly disappointed. It was just as expensive as every other "museum" in Iceland and ess interesting, even though the exterior looked promising. The best aspect was viewing a digital reading of the underground movements of the mountain. Unless you are driving by and have plenty of time and money, I would skip this one.

    Lacking ambition....
I went there on my way to see Hekla and was sadly disappointed. The entrance fee was 900kr. and the main opening to the exhibit was dark and dangerous with dimmly lid two steps down (no wheelchair access and a bit dangerous for guest that enter). The hall was poorly maintained for the lighting was broken at some sections. There were several display monitors with footage of Hekla and its surroundings and one monitor was broken. The information about the volcano did not do it justice and therefor I didn't learn much about it. This exhibit is lacking ambition and could be so much better because Hekla is one of the greatest mythological volcano's in the world. Didn't check the restaurant but the souvenir shop was small and lacking in creativity.
