Winkelcentrum de Loper, South Holland Province, The Netherlands

4.0 (60 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #1 in Vlaardingen Speciality & Gift Shops

Vlaardingse Loper een bezoekje waard.

Visiting Rotterdam in the Netherlands? Don't feel like a visit to a busy city center? From Rotterdam's beautiful central station tram 24 runs to Vlaardingen and stops at the 'market square' of 'De Loper'. This shopping center was completed in 1990. With its 85 richly varied shops well worth a visit, especially on Thursday mornings, when the weekly lively market is there. On the first Saturday of the summer holidays - usually in July - the 'patch market' allows people to sell their unnecessary stuff for next to nothing.

    Useful, but needs an upgrade
This is an open air shopping mall, like most in the Netherlands. Our is a bit outdated, but most of the shops are actually occupied and that is more than most shipping centres can claim. Free parking is a plus!

Free parking and most products can be had here
Shopping center "De Loper" in the north part of Vlaardingen started as the main shopping center in this area when this part of Vlaardingen was built in the '60s and '70s of last century. In the '90s De Loper was extended with a spacious square-like shopping area with a large Albert Heijn supermarket, including a two storey car park with free parking. The shopping center consists indeed of two separate parts, the old part with the rather tired '60s architecture and the modern, rather impersonal square-like part to the north. De Loper is a popular shopping area. Free parking gives the popularity a boost, but also a variety of shops offer many different products. Most national chains can be found here. Unfortunately the Intertoys toy shop closed down due to the bankruptcy of this chain. What De Loper needs for improvement is more restaurants. Only one serious restaurant can be found here besides a cafe and a fast food counter.
