Quay Gate
In the Eastern wall of the Brielle fortress from 1709 (well-restored in the 1970s) this gate provided access to the city from the nearby quay. It is relatively small and narrow. The masonry shows the craftmanship of the builders. The original guardhouse (now a normal dwelling) is still intact. The word 'kaai' (quay) is still very much used in Flanders. The Dutch nowadays use the word 'kade'.
