Japanese Garden, South Holland Province, The Netherlands

4.5 (591 reviews) Spent Ranking #6 in The Hague Gardens

Worth a visit especially when it's open limited time in a year only

Open usually in May and two weeks in October, the Japanese garden receives more and more visitors each year. Photography and theme photo shoot lovers can't miss the garden in blossom. It's a modest size garden, well curated and looked after. Weekdays visit may be better as on a weekend the place is too busy to have any pleasurable impression and idea of the garden the essence of which- to rejoice with nature in harmony, solitude and silence.

Clingendael, A Beautiful Blend of Nature and History - Japanese Garden, the centrepiece
Clingendael is possibly one of the most beautiful estates in the Netherlands. The 16th century traditional manor and its surrounding gardens make for a gorgeous destination. Clingendael refers to valley between (in) the dunes. And what an amazing valley it is with the landscaped gardens and the lush undisturbed natural forest areas. The Japanese Garden happens to be the best and most delicate sections of this place.

I visited this park for the first time last autumn, and I found it beautiful! Yes, it is a bit small and definitely crowded (even on a rainy day, but understandable given it’s only open for two weeks in spring and two weeks in autumn) but I really liked it. Maybe that was because it was my first visit to such a garden ever, but still. Loved the colours and the design. Will return in spring for sure!
