My favourite place for a walk
I've been doing a lot of walking, lately, due to a running injury. It's a lovely green space to enjoy some mature around your doorstep. Especially in the snow, the scenery is magic. So close near the city centre, yet so peaceful if you know where to go.

Den Haag's Central Park
Haagse Bos, literally means the Hague's forest. The forest seems to have been built over marshes but is now a popular place for local and expatriate residents to run, walk, dog walk, have a picnic, bird watch or view/do activities in the open spaces laid out within the city forest. East-west through the forest, the main artery is a bike lane that goes east of Laan van Nieuwe Oost Indie all the way to Prinsegracht/ Raamweg (the Centraal Station side). We have taken this path as a family with my toddler on a back bike seat during the summer. Now with a preschooler and an infant diring winter, we happily discovered the Huttenbos. This is a forest clearing where young and old can build their own hut made of all the pieces of wood that have been felled or have fallen. It's a great place for little ones to burn off energy since there are bits of obstacle course as well made of the logs. For pre-teens to adults, it's a whole lot of fun and challenge to build the cosiest hut for winter! No tools required! There is a central pond that snakes at the centre of the forest. Lovely to gaze at the water while having a picnic for sure. There are deer grazing in an enclosure just north of the Centraal Station and the city's symbol, the stork, has a nest perched up on a post on the same area. Just across the west-east bike path within the park, there is Malieveld. Wide open space extension to the north where events are held throughout the year: City-Pier-City run in March, Queen's Day children's items sale in April, Tong Tong Fair and Veteran's Day celebration in May... The list goes on up to December where the Great Christmas Circus is set-up. For fitness or for leisure, a lovely forest walk is guaranteed! Honestly, I wish I had gone here more often but for the moment, it's never too late!

Good to be back
Walked quite some distance in the Haagse Bos. Some 40 years ago I passed it frequently, while living in the neighborhood. Nothing really changed!
