Very nice explanation about saffron
The guy inside showed us different qualities of saffron, how they cultivate it, how to use it and how to know the real saffron from the fake ones. Very informative.

Friendly and fine safran house
We picked up more safran in glass containers and had a very nice reception at the Maison du Safran. We were the only visitors at 9 in the morning and took the quick self tour of the place. It would be nice to come back in the autumn for the safran festival. Worth a quick visit.

Safran - a disappointment
I took a 1/2 day bus ride from Marrakesh to Taliouine specifically to visit the Safran Collectif but what I found there was far less interesting than I had expected. I had hoped to see aspects of safron cultivation and processing but it turned out that unless you go at the right time of year - November - all you will find is an office with an employee who will tell you a little about the spice, but there is nothing to see. This lady and I spent a while discussing how to tell genuine saffron from fake and then I bought a couple of small containers of the real thing. Back home I used it in cooking and was distinctly underwhelmed; the sophisticated note I had anticipated was barely there. Maybe others have had a completely different and better experience though. Some research before heading there would have helped - my bad.
